Project - 79 Brommersvlei Road
This three-bedroom, open-plan residence is a refined expression of minimalist architecture and environmental sensitivity. Tucked discreetly into an established Constantia Valley neighbourhood, the home offers a seamless transition between interior and landscape. A high concrete wall buffers road noise, enabling the southern façade to open entirely into a private, wooded riverside garden—transforming the house into a tranquil filter for nature.
Key features include:
- Gently sloping concrete roof (3°) designed for full rainwater harvesting
- High-performance envelope: thick insulated floor/walls, double glazing, and thermal fireplace
- Exposed pine plank formwork used for both wall textures and landscaped walkways
- Clean-lined interiors with restrained detailing, ensuring uninterrupted garden and mountain views
- Discreet skylights and minimal ceiling fixtures to preserve spatial calm and natural illumination
The architect’s masterful material palette and passive environmental strategies create a building that is both rooted and elevated—earning it recognition with a CIfA Award for Architecture.
